Measure to assess whether respondent's biological parents, siblings, and children have had a heart attack. Family history is used to assess the presence and age of onset of heart attack in all first-degree relatives. A positive family history for heart attack in a first-degree relative (parent, siblings, or offspring) at a relatively young age is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease.
