A measure to assess the foods and beverages consumed throughout the previous day or the prior 24-hours. The 24-hour recall has long been regarded as the optimal methodology for collecting total dietary intake because it provides the highest-quality and least biased dietary data for a single day. This method allows collection of detailed intake and portion sizes. Because the data collection occurs after consumption, this method does not affect an individual's food choices on a given day.
