This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the CEP 8 SpectrumOrange DNA Probe Kit, which detects AT rich alpha satellite sequences in the centromere region of chromosome 8 in order to identify chromosome 8 copy number. This test is used as an adjunct to routine diagnostic cytogenetic testing involving chromosome 8.
