The analysis of pterins, including neopterin, biopterin, xanthopterin, tetrahydropterin, 7,8-dihydrobiopterin and pterin, in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This panel is performed to diagnose pediatric neurotransmitter diseases caused by defects in the pterin biosynthetic pathway, including inborn errors of sepiapterin reductase (SR), 6-pyruvoyl-tetrahydropterin synthase (PTPS), dihydropteridine reductase (DHPR), and guanosine triphosphate cyclohydrolase (GTPCH).[PMID: 25213568]
