This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the contingencyMedicalSpecialtyCode variable used in the OASIS Emergency Date Exchange Language - Tracking of Emergency Patients (EDXL-TEP) specification and the HL7 v2.7.1 standard ADT and RAS messages. It is used to inform the facility where a patient is being transported about the bed type needed and to support mass casualty patient movement scenarios.
