A clinical judgment as to the worst case for the severity of a future reaction. 'High criticality' is flagged if the clinician has identified a propensity for a more serious or potentially life-threatening reaction, such as anaphylaxis, and implies an absolute contraindication to deliberate or voluntary exposure to the substance. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Allergy Intolerance Criticality observation used in the HL7 CDA® R2 IG: C-CDA Templates for Clinical Notes DSTU Release 2.1 - US Realm.
