The presence and amount of ear mites seen on a slide that contains an ear swab sample of the left external ear. In veterinary medicine, this test is useful for the initial diagnosis of an external ear mite infestation, guides the treatment based on if and how many mites are seen, and allows for the tracking of response to treatment. The clinical course for each ear may be tracked separately in order to monitor response to treatment.
