The test includes targeted analysis of variants in the DPYD gene by various molecular pathology methods, including PCR and sequencing. Testing may be performed to identifying individuals at increased risk of toxicity when considering 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and capecitabine chemotherapy treatment. Variations detected in the DPYD gene are also associated with dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency.
